STAR TREK CHICAGO: AWESOME SUPER NEWS!

Fans in the Chicago area have always been incredibly supportive of our Official STAR TREK Conventions and we’ve had some amazing times celebrating Gene Roddenberry’s legacy in the Midwest. Now, we are very pleased to announce the 2013 visit (May 31-June 2) and we have the greatest line-up of celebrities EVER to headline a Midwest Star Trek Convention! Joining the fun will be the entire cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation including Sir Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Gates McFadden and Marina Sirtis! We’ll also be honoring the 20th Anniversary of STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE with stars Avery Brooks, Nana Visitor, Rene Auberjonois, Armin Shimerman, Casey Biggs, Jeffrey Combs, Vaughn Armstrong, Max Grodenchik and Aron Eisenberg. Star Trek: Voyager’s Ethan Phillips is aboard to do a theatrical on-stage performance with his BENSON co-star Rene Auberjonois. Laps with the Chaps

College of DuPage is hosting the second annual Laps With the Chaps 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, Oct. 20.  This is a great community event, so we hope you join us as either a participant or volunteer. Cost to each player: no more than $20 (the more players we have, the less each player pays!). Pizza and pop will be provided, as usual.  Either respond to the Facebook invite or RSVP to me by no later than Wednesday, July 19 so we have a final head count.

At this point we only have 9 people, we need more to go!

Firefly/Dr. Who/ Law and Order?!

So, I was looking up Firefly in my spare time and came across some something interesting.  First, Summer Glau, who played River Tam in “Firefly” is in a movie coming out this year called “Knights of Badassdom,” that looks pretty damn cool and right up our alley.  Trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnQ9Vp4fV4I

Second, I’ve told you in the past how Alex Kingston, who plays River Song on “Doctor Who,” also appeared on “Law and Order: SVU” as a lawyer named Miranda Pond.  We all thought that was pretty cool.  But that has nothing on what I found out today.

In 2011, Jewel Staite, who played Kaylee in “Firefly” and “Serenity,” appeared on the tv show “Supernatural,” and her character’s name was Amy Pond.  That is some kind of cosmic alignment of Sci-Fi television.

J.R.R. Tolkien’s true vision, if you ask me.

It’s easy to get caught up in all the glitz and glamour of the recent oscar-winning remakes, but some of us still remember the original version back before they could afford to use cgi or breed their own dragons just for the close up shots.  This film was from a simpler day in the art of cinema, but still just as powerful, if not more so, than one of the most acclaimed modern remakes ever.  So, without further ado, via youtube, I present Humphrey Bogart in the 1944 original, “The Lord of the Rings.”
