Laps with the Chaps

College of DuPage is hosting the second annual Laps With the Chaps 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, Oct. 20.  This is a great community event, so we hope you join us as either a participant or volunteer. Net proceeds will go to student scholarships. For additional race day details or to register visit www.cod.edu/5k.

 Our club will be participating in this again this year, the more people we have the better!

First Club Meeting, Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2:30 – 4:00 PM, BIC 1632: Come join us for our first meeting of the year!  Renew your membership as well!  Find out what we’ll be planning for the rest of the semester!

Student Life Fair 29th

We want to remind you that the Student Life Fair will be held on Wednesday, August 29, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the lower walkway of the Student Resource Center (SRC) and the first floor of the Student Services Center (SSC).  It’s a great time to promote your club or organization to new students! Will you be joining us? There will also be vendors to add even more excitement to the day! You won’t want to miss it!

 Most of you have already reserved a table for the fair but if you haven’t, please reply to this e-mail by Friday, August 24, to reserve a table. If you cannot attend but would like your fliers or other promotional materials available, we will GLADLY take them! All you will need to do is drop them off before August 29 to the Office of Student Life (SSC 1217) and let the front desk know they are for the fair.

 

Laser Quest!!

Date: Saturday, July 21, 2012

Time: 12:30 – 3:30 PM

Location: Laser Quest, Finley Shopping Center (corner of Finley and Butterfield Roads), Downers Grove

Details: Please try to arrive by no later than 12:30 PM. As usual, non-members can attend, so long as we we don’t go over 30 players. Cost to each player: no more than $20 (the more players we have, the less each player pays!). Pizza and pop will be provided, as usual.  Either respond to the Facebook invite or RSVP to me by no later than Wednesday, July 19 so we have a final head count.

WE ARE HAVING A MEETING NEXT WEEK

Firefly/Dr. Who/ Law and Order?!

So, I was looking up Firefly in my spare time and came across some something interesting.  First, Summer Glau, who played River Tam in “Firefly” is in a movie coming out this year called “Knights of Badassdom,” that looks pretty damn cool and right up our alley.  Trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnQ9Vp4fV4I

Second, I’ve told you in the past how Alex Kingston, who plays River Song on “Doctor Who,” also appeared on “Law and Order: SVU” as a lawyer named Miranda Pond.  We all thought that was pretty cool.  But that has nothing on what I found out today.

In 2011, Jewel Staite, who played Kaylee in “Firefly” and “Serenity,” appeared on the tv show “Supernatural,” and her character’s name was Amy Pond.  That is some kind of cosmic alignment of Sci-Fi television.
